Residents in Chiawelo, Soweto, where District 9 was shot, feel disappointed and let down after the film crew left the slum. As in the film, the residents in the real District 9 are also forced to move to community housing. Some resist the move, others are angry because they have waited many years for a much needed relocation. Joseph Shimange worked on the film set and claims the film crew still owes him money.
